Register on gov.uk →Required for anyone handling food. Can be completed online in a few hours. Cost: £15–£40.
Get certified online →Minimum £5 million cover required. Most councils will not grant a licence without it. Cost: ~£150–£500/year.

Street Trading Licence — a formal legal right to trade at a specific location. Harder to get, longer process, but gives you a more secure long-term position. Can be appealed if refused.
Street Trading Consent — permission from the council to trade. Simpler process, cheaper, but the council can withdraw it more easily. Common in smaller cities and outer London boroughs.
